How can I repair my maytag washer? ?

during the spin cycle about half of the time the drum will not spin, but the motor and belt spin properly. Is there a clutch between the bottom pulley and the shaft to the drum? And if so is it profitible to change out or should we scrap it?

Yes there is a clutch for the spin. Only you know how much a replacement washing machine will cost & the overall condition of the one you have now and how much you have spent on it in the past. Phone your local repair shop that does Maytag repairs, explain the fault & ask for an estimate of cost to repair. Then decide what to do.
