wasing machine will not finish cycle, seems to stop with pump running?

I cannot understand my hoover al150 washing machine . If i start a wash on number 8 for example it seems to run until it reaches the rinse cycle just after number 10 and then stays there with which seems to be the drain pump running and thats all. Also the pump sounds very rattly. If you switch off power and open door there is no water in drum . Was workingfine until recently. i have removed a hair clip from the pump which i thought was the cause but still rattling. The machine will not stop even if i switch machine back on the pump still seems to be running.
