Mend Hoover Optima Drum Washing

Hoover Optima with very bad leak water not even entering drum?

Hoover optima washing machine is leaking very badly . I have stripped the machine down and cannot find the leak . Inlet pipes clear. Cleaned soap drawer and two feeder rubber pipes don't seem

to be a problem . Cleaned pump , cleaned filter .
Took off water pipe at bottom of drum . Nothing .

I poured water down the tube for soap dispenser and it just leaked out straight through . I inspected pipe everything looks fine no hole . Only thing I haven't done is replace door seal but seal at front end of door looks fine not leaking here . Seal onto drum looks fine but machine two years old and not sure if it has perished at some point the seal looks fine and tight with the adjustable clamp . Don't know what else to look at any advice would be great .

scrub first my reply -- didnt scroll down to see the other answers!!

if the water is pouring straight out, it sounds like you may have a hole in the TUB !!

check the tube/hose from the bottom of the dispenser to the tub - probably blocked with soap powder !!

Hi Mech Monster thanks again for your advice thus far , just had the machine apart again before reading your instructions to take off the front panel

I had everything off like you say but the front of the machine is spot welded to the side frames there are no screws that I can see around the top of the machine and there is no kick panel just the filter on left side .

I have toyed with trying to take the door seal off but feel I am now getting out of my depth .

the two feeder hoses from the soap dispenser look ok and no splits or cracks but when I put a glass of water down them the water just came out the bottom of the machine and I could not see where .

I tilted the machine backwards and got more water poured in to see if I could see it leaking from the underside of the door seal . There was no water coming from the seal nor from the heating element or the tube leading to the pump / filter .

When I sat the machine upright about 15 mins ago the water poured out the bottom of the machine .

Still don't know where it is leaking from , I suspect the door seal where it meets the drum but it looks intact and tightly fitted .

Should I give up and send for a professional ?

Yours

ok if all checks prove ok then the only places where its leaking from is either the hose from the despenser to the drum,or the door seal .you will have to remove the front panel to get a better look at where the header pipe joins the drum.first remove the two phillips screws at the rear of the wm securing the lid, remove the lid and the soap dispenser tray .remove the two screws located around the dispenser housing securing the the control panel .lift control panel out of the way ,and you will see the screws securing the front panel .remove the plastic kick panel at the bottom of the wm and you will see more screws securing the front panel .remove the two screws from the interlock, now you are ready to remove the outer doorseal secured to the front panel .with a flat headed screwdriver prise out the spring securing band from under the seal ,now you can remove the seal from the front panel.providing you have removed all of the screws the front panel will now lift off.on the left hand side of the drum you will see the intake pipe ,check the pipe for splits and pay close attention to wher the pipe is joined to the drum.this will also give you the space needed to check the seal and its anchorage to the drum.

inspect the drain pump carefully the casing could have a crack in it ,maybe not that visible .try moving the hoses where they clip to the pump,if its cracked the crack will open up .

heating element is located towards the bottom of the drum ,it actually slots into the outer drum casing ,it has two wires attached and has a 10mm nut in the centre.the element heats the water in the drum to the correct temperature .if you discover a leak from around the heater, check the centre nut is tight ,sometimes the nut can rattle loose .do not over tighten the nut as this can damage the drum casing.
