How can I fix my Hoover Windtunnel vacuum?

I have the same problem. The Self Propelk isn't working. I took the handle off and found that the control cable is broken. The part is about $12. I need to find out how to put the new one in.

I took it to a vac shop who wants to charge $170! Actually the first estimate was about $100, then maybe $120 and now it's $170. I haven't this shady service from a car repair shop. I'm going to pick it up now, unrepaired.

Sounds like we all got the same machine. I'm guessing all of these problems are a design flaw. The noise and smell are BAD. But the job gets done....hmmm, I'll look at Dyson next time...

I just took my windtunnel to get fixed. It smelled awful when we used it. The guy said I need a new motor because the old one is "arcing". He checked the filter on the side and said I had the wrong filter, the one for the bagless, and in his opinion probably caused the moter to overheat. I have never changed the filter, so it CAME with the wrong filter! He said he has seen this many times. The factory (in Mexico) runs out of one kind and just puts in whatever it has! This will cost us 150.00. It isn't even 2 years old yet. So check to make sure you have the correct filters in.

I have the same problem ! In addition my self propelled does not work; and the vacuum makes a loud screeching noise mostly on the backstroke. Any help out there? Where can I get a repair manual ?
