Mend Craftsman Pull Start

How can I fix the pull cord on my tiller?

My son was trying to start my craftsman tiller, the pull cord was doing fine, it would not start though and he decided to check the fuel and add some gas, then tried starting it again and that is when the pull cord stopped pulling out. Help!
