Mend Canon 1020 Control Panel Top

How do I clean the roller from the control panel on top?

Cannon 1020 Roller Cleaning:
I have streaks on the copies and my manual is slightly different then the 1020 consequently I do not know if I can clean this unit as described. I>E> hold down the exposure mode key for four seconds and when the U1 in the copy quality ratio display Press start key.

Is this accurate or is there another sequence as this coding does not appear to be correct.
