What Can Cause the Agitator To Not Agitate?

I have a Hotpoint washer and the Agitator won't agitate the Clothes it will Spin them but won't Agitate?

During agitate cycle does it only spin? I am having the same problem...after many forums i have come to the conclusion that it is the timer switch. I have an Amana top load desinger series blah blah. It is NOT a direct drive. I have taken the timer switch apart and the contacts that do the "AGITATE SELECT" are pretty fried. Didnt get a chance to put a meter on it yet, tho.
