I have an old(17 yrs) washer-whirlpool LX 5000 series-?

The agitator is very, very loose -it won't agitate but it will spin out the water. We have tightened the black center bolt and it works for a few minutes but then it works loose again and won't agitate. Any ideas on what to replace-the whole agitator, the bolt, the dogs, etc?
