Hotpoint Aquarius WD420 trips main breaker?

I've inherited what looks like a barely used machine that however has been in an empty house for a couple of years. It ran ok for 3-4 washes (with very slight electrical smell that you get with new electrical devices) but now it trips the main breaker during a wash.
