Charles - hold fire on the switch - I have repaired dozens (perhaps 15) vacuum cleaners - never needed to mess with the switch - nearly always a broken wire inside the cable at the plug end.

Cut away the plug and 6" of cable - fit a new plug. Quick & cheap and very probably a fix. If not - seek out the switch you want.
