How can I manually remove a disc?

I have a Panasonic DVDE55 and have experienced a similar problem to Mark Smith, ie when a disc was inserted it tries to read the disc, then resets to self test in a continous loop. How can I manually remove the disc from the drive without damaging the recorder. Can anyone please advise, Thanks
