diesel problem?

hi my ford mondeo 1.8td has started to splutter at 2000 revs and in the last few days has also cut out while driving along in traffic but it gets going after a about 10 yurns of the key

check tank cap breather hole isnt blocked,have your filters been done lately?does it have a hand primer on the filter head?might be drawing air,just a couple of things to look at,good luck
