Can a faulty bobbin hook cause my sewing machine to skip stitches?

My Pfaff Creative 2140 sewing machine is skipping stitches badly, especially on stretchy fabric. I've changed needles again and again, checked the tensions, and they're good, cleaned everything but nothing has helped. I heard that there's been a problem with the bobbin hook on this model. If it's bad can it cause the machine to do this? Is there anyone who has this model who has had the same problem? If so, can you help me? To have a $5,000 machine that does this is maddening!!

Hello Suzie,
If your machine is missing stitches on cotton fabric then it will need retiming which is common on all machines, if it is missing stitches on stretch fabric then it is the wrong style of needle, if you need to retime the machine I can attach instructions if you email me, type my address as you say it not as you see it.
