Mend Pfaff 1222 Started Running Help Fine

My Pfaff 1222 suddenly started running fast and it won't stop. Help!?

My Pfaff 1222 sewing machine was sewing fine until one day I switched it on to sew and it went on running before Pressed the foot control. It has not stopped. I cannot use it as it doesn't feel safe coming anywhere near it. Does anyone have an idea what has happened? Please help....

Possibly the foot control has short circuited - nearly always the capacitor - just a spark suppressor - cut it out and don't bother replacing it.
