hotpoint wma 58p "it tries to spin but then cuts out"?

my hotpoint wma58 tries to spin on either end of cycle OR if u do a quick spin etc...BUT THEN CUTS OUT ....IT THEN RE TRIES ONCE OR TWICE...the it gives up the ghost (with many panel lights lit)...i have done these things....unblocked pump (pumps fine)..and also the brushes for the motor ARE VERY LOW,,,,IN FACT NEARLY DOWN TO THE SERIAL NUMBERS ON THE CARBON(about 1cm left) is this cutting it out telling me to change my brushes???? or am i barking up the wrong tree....
