overfilling washing machine?

The white plastic housing which goes into the inner drum (with a thin rubber pipe coming off it) is blocked.
Remove & clean this.
DO NOT BLOW INTO THE THIN HOSE
You may find that because of this, the element is now faulty (i.e. the heating may have come on with no water in the machine).
To access these parts, open the front panel as in previous questions.
ALWAYS TURN OFF THE POWER BEFORE WORKING ON THE MACHINE.

I had a similar problem with a Hotpoint some years ago. The pipe leading to the water pressure switch had become gunked up with washing powder that hadn't dissolved properly.
Now I only buy liquid detergent.
