check the neltron cables (flat white ribon type cables), particularly the 2 that you can see when you take the bottom panel off. Mine had this fault & plugging the wider cable in properly fixed it (was very awkward to do tho). You may want to sillicone spray the plastic cogs & chanels in the eject mechanism too - mine was struggling to spit out tapes before I did this (be carefull not to get silicone on anthing else important)
