Old age or dirty. It is usually possible to take most them apart and clean the keyboard and underside of the buttons with a dump cloth, then a dry cloth.

BTW it helps if you say what brand of machine you have.

BTW2 Its not DV3 nor is that a model type. It is a stylised DVB - Digital Video Broadcasting. All DVB boxes have that symbol.
