It's more probable that you need a new battery.

If the battery have beed left totaly drained for more than a few hours, it's DEAD!

After about 1000 to 10000 recharge cycles, it needs to be replaced. Charging, using for 10 seconds and recharging count as a full cycle. You should wait untill the charge is down to around 5% before recharging.
