How do I thread my Brother 1020 sewing machine correctly?

I don't know where to put the tension for the thread to sew a straight stitch.

normally thread passes from right to left thru thread guide at top of machine,forward down to tension unit between disc making sure to pick up thread take up spring,up towards and thru thread take up lever,down to thread guide on needle bar and thru needle from front , tension on tension unit normally 3,4,5. happy new year
