Mend Singer 6234 Sewing Machine Tension Threading

Singer 6234 Tension problems?

I just bought a used Singer sewing machine model 6234. It is having major tension problems. I have tried different threads, new needles, moved the tension bar up and down - no difference. You can pull the top stitches out with out much effort. I have doubled checked several times to make sure I am threading it correctly and I am. Any suggestions?

have you threaded the bottom bobbin correctly?

Is the needle in the right way round? (My Mum had all sorts of problems with that once)
