Mend Ford Transit 280 Gear Cables

floppy gear lever transit 280 02 plate?

my gear lever is very floppy, could it be the cables need adjusting ? gear changing is ok . if the cables were loose would that make the gear lever loose ?

Ford Ford Transit 280 Vehicles, Vans Gear Transit Cables

there is a pinch bolt on the shaft into the selectors on top of g/box,check it is tight,get someone to go through the gears and look at cables at g/box for any free play in linkages also
