transit gear cable box?

think this is the breather hose you are seeing and doesn`t connect to anything,look at the selector shaft where it goes through an oil seal on top of the box,if this shaft looks dry and has a brown residue on it then good chance this is your problem,needle roller bearings are on this shaft,top one just under the oil seal and is generally the one which gives problems
