Mend Dell

wireless connection?

i have a dell (latitude c400). i am trying to connect it to my wireless network. every time i enter the wep key it is saying-- network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your configuration, this can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters, or 10 or 26 hexdecimal characters.-- the password i am entering is correct as i use it on the other laptops. can any one please advise what to do so i can connect this laptop, thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know what Network Names have to do with it Electro, that is a Windows concept and he is not getting anywhere near that level. He/she can't even get connected to the WLAN.

As to his/her problem I'm afraid that I can't even venture an answer based on the information contained in the question.

The computer's name need to be unique within a given network. If another computer is already connected, and have the same name, you have a conflict and the second request is denied.

Make sure that all connected computers have different names.

Make sure that you effectively send 8 bits per byte for your password (extended ASCII). Maybe your laptop only send 7 bits bytes (base ASCII character set).
If you send 7 bits bytes, you effectively only send 35 or 91 bits.

If all else fails, can you connect that laptop using an ethernet cable? Try that and use that connection to set the password for that computer.

I recomend that all your computers use different password. It's safer that way.
