why is it when i push the start button on my ge dryer the lights in the hou?

why is it when i push the start button on my gr dryer the lights in the house go off until i release it and the dryer does not start!

is it just the lights that go off??
if it is plug it in somewhere else as the socket outlets shouldn't be attached to the lighting circuit under ANY circumstance!
