How can I fix my Goodmans DVD recorder?

My dvd recorder will not turn on. There is power going to the machine as the standby light is on but I can not turn it on. I have pressed the standby button on the machine and also the remote but there is nothing. What could be the cause of this and how can I fix it. Any advice at all will be greatly appreciated
