Use a Linux CD to remove bad files safely for free?

Have you tried using a free Knoppix CD to inspect/remove bad files and rescue your good ones.

If you go to www.knoppix.net you get the CD image and burn it.

You can even do this with a virus ridden machine and it will still be fine.
Windows viruses don't work in Linux so it's completely safe.

It doesn't install anything on your HDD and you can salvage/remove files in a safe environment.

It will even allow you to access the internet and check your email and run Windows programs in complete safety and no risk of catching.

Worth a try and it only costs you the price of a blank CD.
