Drum not spinning, Zanussi Aquacycle 1050?

The drum in our Zanussi Aquacycle 1050 FLS-1183 W is not spinning, someone has suggested that it could be the carbon brushes. Is this correct or could it be the bearings or something else?

Disregard my post; it does not apply to this model!
Sorry. I didn't see that you'd done the brushes - must get my eyes checked.

Not sure if the Acquacycle is similar but ...?

Basically, I had a Zanussi FL828 which would drain and then try to go into the final (fast) spin but never quite managed to get the drum up to speed.
I checked the belt (for slippage ... signs of rubber scuffing obvious looseness) it was OK but changed it anyway. Still the cycle never spun properly so the clothes were wet.
As many suggest I looked for the carbon brushes (they transfer electric current to the rotor of the motor via the commutator on the rotor), but the motor on my FL828 was a brusheless (induction) motor.

In the end I found a capacitor (condenser) which stores electrical energy - I suspect this is what supplies the 'kick' to start the motor against a load into the final spin. Nothing clever here - I just looked at where the motor's wires went!

I replaced just that component, (the capacitor), and the machine worked fine afterwards.
Later on I had a sticking solenoid in the drain valve - but that's another story altogether.

BTW:
On the belt: I noticed that although the belt probably did not need replacing on my machine as it wasn't slipping, the new belt semed to reduce the degree of movement during spinning. So, if your machine is starting to move into the lounge when it is spinning, consider checking the belt.

Many thanks, the carbon on both brushes were down to 5mms

remove the motor brushes and check the length of the carbon. anything less than 10mm in length on the carbon bit will need new ones fitted
