How do you rewind a Poulan P3314 gas chain saw starter rope?

I was trying to start my saw, and when I pulled the starter rope it unwind itself.

When this happens it is normally the spring has become unattached or has broken. Remove the starter and rotate the pulley by hand in the direction that the rope pulls it, can you feel the spring winding up? if yes wind the rope back onto the pulley and re tension the spring, if not you will need to replace the spring itself
