Mend Hotpoint WF220 Machine Cycle Drain

WF220 Hotpoint - burning smell + wash cycle stalls?

My drain hose was blocked. After removing the blockage, I did a test run. The machine now commences a programme however there is a burning smell and the machine is stuck on the wash cycle. I can cancel this and spin as a seperate programme likewise for draining.
Also during the wash cycle programme there is an intermittent ratttle/grinding?

Am i right to suspect circuitry getting wet is causing a problem? Please could someone diagnose and advise on action to repair
