String trimmer fuel line repair?

I'm trying to replace the fuel intake and return lines on a Troy-Bilt string trimmer (425cs). I have the parts, but I'm not sure which goes where. I'm also not sure how to install the intake line with the filter. The filter came pre-installed to the line. Is it ok to remove the filter, run it through the opening, and re-install the filter inside the fuel tank?
