Change trimmer head on Troy Bilt TB465SS?

Changing TB465SS from Fixed to Bump feed

This is a big challenge, I changed my TB465SS fixed head to a Oregon Speedload Bump Head.

1. Remove plastic knob and square headed bolt at bottom of fixed head. Save the bolt and washer.

2. Remove the gearbox, open it and remove the lower drive attached to the head

3. Put the assembly in a vice with head upside down and drive between the jaws (do not tighten vice)

4. Use a long punch inserted into the threaded hole (where the square head bolt was) tap until the head comes off the shaft. Be careful not to damage the threads.

5. The Oregon head comes with 3 adapters. Select the one with the largest hole. This will serve as a spacer.

6. Hold the adapter in a vice and saw off the male threaded stud.

7. Using a 13/32" bit, drill out the female threaded hole all the way through the end of the adapter. It should be able to fit over the round portion of the drive shaft. Install the adapter in the hex hole inside of the top half of the Oregon head.

8. Place a large 1/2" flat washer on the round portion of the drive shaft. Insert it into the top of the Oregon head. The round shaft will protrude slightly.

9. Use a steel bushing or nut and drill the hole out to 13/32". Place this over the end of the round shaft, and install the square head bolt and washer. Tighten up.

10. Install the drive end back into the gearbox, close up the gearbox and reinstall on the trimmer shaft.

11. The Speedload lines discs will have to be flipped over because the TB465SS turns in the opposite direction. Put the discs in with the unprinted side UP or else the line will not feed correctly.
