Thank you very much for this advice, you are a champ. I will buy a multi meter. Are the valves able to be replaced separately if that proves to be the problem? Thanks again.

Error code 49. The Motor Control Module has measured a voltage from the valve diagnostic circuit that indicates the cold valve is faulty. Open the panel & check that the wiring plug on the cold inlet valve is firmly in place. If ok then check the valve coil with an ohms meter to see if it is open circuit. If wiring & valve are ok then it may be a fault with the control module but is more likely a valve fault.
