Mend Dualit D4BEHUS Green Light Lit

Green neon light stays lit?

I just purchased a 4 slot electronic dualit toaster which was manufactured for Williams Sonoma in 2008. Model D4BEHUS. The green neon light stays on even when the unit is in the “off” position. Is it supposed to do this or is this a defect? Thanks for your reply.
