Hotpoint WML540 won't start?

Hi,
washing machine has been working fine, but now when you pres the start button (slow blinking amber light) it goes to green, clicks 6 times the back to blinking amber; also door lock is lit red & the "end" light above is dimly & slowly flashing red. The on/ off button has no effect so I switched of at the mains for a minute and it then started for 10 - 15 seconds, but the clicked six times again & stopped as before.
