Light fittings?

I have just moved into a property whereby everything needs to be done, i have the odd room with no light, has fittings but they are broken.
light fitting one, removed fitting, and i have 3 reds, 3 blacks, 3 earth, and one white, i have tried wiring without the white added, and with all, but the light stays on permanently, its only a standard fitting, now i am unsure where to go!
Light two, removed an old broken sensor light from the front of the house, installed a new one, 3 cables red,black,earth, red to brown, black to blue and earth on its own as ins stated, thing is doesnt work!

Any one able to shed some light on this? pardon the pun
