Security screws on Dualit Lite Toaster?

Hi, Does anyone know where I can get a driver for the security screws on the bottom of a dualit Lite? I have read a lot of comments about how easy it is to fix Dualit Toasters, but nobody seems to be able to help with the Lite range, which are considered disposable by the professional repair services I have tried. I don't want to chuck out a £50 toaster without at least trying to repair it, but I can't get past the strange security screws. Has anyone got any ideas?

Many thanks Steve Bates your post is spot on. Those security screws are a pain, undone mine with a pair of long nose jewellery pliers.

You're bang on Steve Bates! Exactly the same problem with my toaster. Now ready for repair after getting those pesky screws out. I used my trusty Dremel with a small diameter diamond head cutter and used it to make a screw driver slot in the screw head. A bit of a struggle but they're out, never to return. It'll be simple screws for the rebuild.
Well worth the effort though as this is the best toaster we have ever had.

The screws are called 'System Zero'. A '4.5mm gamebit' should be able to remove them as they are used on some game consoles.

Many thanks to Steve Bates for the tip about the security screws. I was given a 2NG1GB toaster which wouldn't turn on and it turned out to have exactly the same fault - the neutral wire had burnt through. I wasn't able to solder it onto the brass prong, but I found that a blue a female spade connector fit quite tightly over the prong and makes a good connection. Hopefully that'll last another few years. Took me ages to get those damn screws out but once that was done, it was an easy fix. Cheers!

Mine is 7 years old. I had an issue where it wouldn't stay down, or heat even if I held it down. No power at all.

Firstly unplug it.

To take it apart, turn it upside down. You have to get the 4 security bolts undone which are underneath (Mine look like they have six holes around them). I have a set of security bits from Maplins. While none of these fitted exactly, I managed to use a size 10 double prong bit to get it partially undone, then when it was protruding enough a 4mm socket.
Also, you need to unscrew the bobble by hand which you use to push the toast down. You can then pull the cover off, from the back first. The timer dial is connected to the cover, but I didn't disconnect this.

Note: You don't need to undo the bolts inside the toaster. (They only hold the metal base to the plastic base), the 4 torx screws holding the side panel on, or the 4 twisted pieces of metal which hold the toaster internals to the base.

Inside, there are 4 prongs which are pushed together when you push the toast down. On further inspection, I found the main blue power cable had become corroded, and had melted and become disconnected. So simply unscrewed the 2 screws hold this section on,(simply for easier access) and resoldered the blue cable back onto the correct prong.

And now it works again!

What youre after is a tamper proof torx t20 screwdriver. These are quite common here is Aust. They are called for by the standards the appliance is built to - so dont blame the manufacturer. They are soldby tool shops and electronics shops. I did a search in the UK and came up with some results - try that.
BTW repairing toasters - good luck !
