how can i detect the water entry?

there is a pool of water gathering in the footwell on the drivers side of my 1999 ford fiesta. this happens when it rains. how do i detect the water entry and how can i repair it?

If it only occures when raining .
check the rain gutters under bonnet outlets towards wings are not blocked.

if it occures all the time
Third check there are no leaks from the heater.
