how do i connect an overdrive switch?

How do i connect the switch from the gear stick to the gear box on a 2.4 york diesel engine ford transit 1978 motorhome
The cable runs from the switch on the gear knob to the gearbox solinoid but how do i power it ???
any ideas or pics please
