Ford Focus (1999) key fob re-programme help needed?!?

I have a 1999 ford focus, i have tried the reprogramming sequence as advised by turning the key to position I then II and back 4 times, when I do this I get the chime noise, however, what I do from here nothing works. I have tried keeping the key in the ignition and pressing lock/unlock and waiting 10 secs and tried taking the key out and doing the above but there is nothing at all happening when I do this. The jey works fine opening and locking the central locking when used in the drivers door but the remote locking is dead. Please can someone help me. Thanks Mike
