my girlfriends ghds are coming on then going off?

Sounds like a short/break in the wire you need to find it and repair preferably by solder. the spark is the break and wires just catching as they touch. Girlfriends was doing the same and they are fixed now 20minute job. Why pay a fortune when its a simple electrical repair especially if they are older than 12 months.

I'll bet a pound to a penny, its the wires where it goes in to the straighteners, because they keep bending, they finally fray inside, go to e-bay, type in GHD Repair, and you will be able to buy the wire that goes in to them for 3/4/5 pounds, its easy to fix, as i have done it, so it must be easy, good luck.

what model are they?
IF YOU WIGGLE THE WIRE DOES THIS MAKE THEM GO ON AND OFF IF SO THE CABLE IS THE FAULT
IF YOU PRESS THE PLATES TOGETHER A NUMBER OF TIMES AND THIS MAKES THEM GO ON AND OFF THEN ONE OF THE PLATE HEATERS WIRE IS BREAKING AND IF IT GOES ON AND OFF RANDOMLY AND THEY ARE A MARK 3.1 OR 4 THEN YOUR THERMAL FUSE IS INTERMITENT
