Mend Mitsubishi HS-M55(B) Video Cassette Recorder

Mitsubishi HS-M55(B)?

Every 3-4 seconds when playing a tape the picture goes from perfect, fades with static to blank for a second in SP mode. In LP mode its every 1.5 seconds. Anyone know why and how to fix it?

the likely answer is the audio/control head is not producing f.g pulses. try giving it a good clean.if the face of the audio head is brass coloured,its worn out.pinch rollers can cause the same,as can the capstan motor,when starved of oil.sorry if this appears technical,but i am a engineer!
