there is a steering control box , this can cause all sorts of problems it is a common fault on jcb telehandlers (according to jcb fitter i spoke to)
it is normally located by the brake fluid pot centre dash panel (the box will say what it is )

THE STEERING SELECTION WORKS ON MAGNETIC SENSORS ON THE BOTH AXLES, USUALLY A PEG AND A PROXIMITY SENSOR. THESE DETERMINE WHAT POSITION THE WHEELS ARE IN WHEN YOU SELECT 2 WHEEL, 4 WHEEL OR CRAB, THEN LOCKS THE STEERING ACCORDINGLY. USUAL FAULTS ARE THE PEG IS MISSING OR OUT OF ALIGNMENT. MUD CLOGGING UP BETWEEN THE PEG AND SENSOR. OR FAULTY PROX SWITCH. USE A SCREWDRIVER TO TRICK THE SENSOR INTO THINKING THE WHEELS ARE ALIGNED TO TEST THE SENSOR. REPEAT FOR BOTH AXLES. RENEW OR REPAIR AS REQUIRED.
