Mend Sony Power Settings Cut

Sony VCR dies in power cuts?

I have a Sony VCR which resets itself back to facorty settings every time there is a power cut, I have the reset codes but now the VCR will not record properly, the bottom part of the picture is fuzzy but the sound is OK. The video is only 18months old but the manufacturers guarantee has expired of course, can anyone help???
