how do you disassemble vhs cassette and replace tape in same?

I've just been looking for the same info and drawn a blank so I had a go myself without a diagram even though all the sites said it was a job for the professional! I was desperate to watch the 2nd episode of Heroes! My solution was to find another tape that didn't matter and remove the screws and split the label along the spine so I could lift off the cover (window side up so nothing drops out, rollers should stay in position) and look how it was put together. I cut out the crumpled bit and spliced the ends with Scotch invisible tape and it worked. I did take the precaution of winding it past the join to avoid damaging the machine. Hope this helps!
