You cannot connect via the FRONT A type usb socket.
Look at Rear (right hand) inset is the B type socket you need to use. How? insert your install CD and select CUSTOM install.
DO NOT PLUG IN THE CABLE YET. A picture box screen pops to tell you when. You will see printer icon to the right bottom of screen next to clock if all is ok.
