How can I fix a small hot water cylinder leak?

Undoing a stubborn connection on the cold water supply to my hot water copper cylinder caused the connection to the cylinder to twist slightly so as to disturb what looks like resin that was packed around it so resulting in a small leak (water weeps out) just below the connection to the cylinder. How can I repair this?
