john deere 2040 rev counter,opu cab,1981,serial no 385222?

the rev counter on my john deere 2040 does not work,yet it records the hours, does the sender on front of engine operate both,can anyone help please !!!!

I think you'll find you need a new sender on the front of the engine, tho' looking at the parts catalogue there are some newer versions depending on tractor / engine serial number.. See your local dealer or look at www.johndeere.co.uk & navigate your way to the parts catalogues from there
