How can I fix my Hoover PE235?

I have a 4 year old Hoover PE 235 (1300 Special Edition A Wash Performance) which won't seem to forward itself through the programmes. It will only do the first function of the programme. For example, if it's programmed for a wash, it will add water and then just stop. Likewise if I then turn the knob to a spin cycle, it will just let the water out and then turn for a short while and stop.
