Mend Peugeot Speedfight 2 CDI Spark

Peugot 50cc speedfight 2004 wont start?

My son has bought the bike, was told CDI was faulty so have purchased replacement. Starter motor turns, the plug is sparking but engine wont run. It does kick start either.
Any body out there have any suggestions?

if its been standing then drain and clean out the carb and put some fresh fuel in it,i take it it has some resistance to the kickstart lever? ie compression
